It can be quite intimidating making the first moves to join a choir… Will I be good enough?… What are the members of the choir like?… How well do I need to be able to read music?
The best way to find out about the Cecilian Singers is to come to one of our rehearsals and join in. You’ll be given your music, which you can take away with you. Over the next few weeks you can make up your mind if you want to proceed to a personal audition with the Music Director, Rosemary Allison.
An ability to read music is obviously an advantage, but we don’t expect you to be incredibly confident – you will learn as you go if you have the basics. Of course, a really strong sight-reader of music is always very welcome if she has the voice to match.
If you pass your personal audition, Rosemary will place you in the section of the choir that best suits your vocal range. The choir provides you with a uniform – all you will have to provide is black stockings and shoes. The annual subscription for members of the Cecilian Singers is $130, or $65 for students and the unwaged. You can arrange with the treasurer to direct credit the total, or pay by instalments over the year. The subscription helps fund performances, pay for guest artists, buy new music repetoire, and so on.
If you would like to join the choir, please complete the simple form below and Rosemary will contact you. Or you can contact Rosemary directly.
